Where is Kissimmee, and how close is it to Disney?
Kissimmee sits directly south of the Walt Disney World gates, strung along US-192. Depending on exactly where you stay, you're roughly 10–20 minutes from the parks by car — close enough for an easy morning rope drop and a midday pool break, far enough to escape on-property prices at night. You'll want a rental car, since these homes aren't on Disney's transportation network.
The resort communities
Most Kissimmee-area vacation rentals sit inside gated resort communities, each with its own feel and amenities:
- Reunion Resort — upscale and gated, with golf and a water park. Where our home is; more in our Reunion Resort guide.
- ChampionsGate — newer communities just off I-4 on the south side, popular for large pool homes.
- Storey Lake, Solterra, Windsor, Encore, Bellavida — a range of communities with resort pools, lazy rivers, and clubhouses.
Why a Kissimmee vacation rental beats a hotel for families
The case is the same one we make across the site, and it's strongest here because Kissimmee is where the inventory is: a private pool, a full kitchen to skip a few $20 park meals, and a real bedroom for everyone. Split a home across two families and it often costs less per person than a cluster of hotel rooms. We break down the trade-offs in vacation home vs. Disney hotel.
What to do here (besides Disney)
Kissimmee has more than the parks — Gatorland, airboats on Lake Toho, water parks, Old Town, and pretty downtown Celebration. See things to do in Kissimmee for a full rundown of rest-day ideas.
